How is the community involved in my public school? |
 |
Chicago Public Schools (CPS) recognize the importance of getting communities actively involved in the education of their children. To meet the needs of each school and the communities in which they reside, Local School Councils (LSC) are established to select the school´s principal, to renew the principals contract, to approve the School Improvement Plan for Advancing Academic Achievement and to approve the school´s budget for the school year. LSCs are made up of principals, teachers, parents and community members. They allow each community to set the priorities of their school. To learn more about the LSCs in your neighborhood, call the CPS Office of School and Community Relations at 773-553-1400. You may also visit the CPS web site at www.cps.k12.il.us.
We encourage everyone to get involved in the activities of their local LSC and to learn more about what is happening at your school. You can call the general CPS information hotline for details on special programs that are available through the CPS system or at your particular school, 773-553-1000. |
