Child Care Centers
Private and public centers are located across the City. You can find them in community centers or as stand-alone facilities. Costs and schedules vary.
Family Child Care Homes
Home providers accept children from birth to 12 years old. They must be licensed if they serve more than three children. Costs and schedules vary
Child Parent Centers
Child Parent Centers serve children ages three to five years old. They include half-day, full-school day, and 7 am to 6 pm choices. They focus heavily on literacy and parental involvement. Families must reside in eligible communities.
Tuition Based Pre-school
Three and four year old children can attend preschool through the Chicago Public Schools. State certified teachers instruct children during full-day, full-year schedules. Families pay a flat fee per week.
Head Start
Head Start prepares children from three to five years old for school. Federal funding covers half-day, part-year programs. The City combines federal and state dollars to extend the program to full day, full year schedules. Ask about the schedule of the program near you. Parents must meet income requirements.
Early Head Start
Early Head Start is for children from six weeks to three years old. Schedules are offered on a full-day, full-year basis. Parents must meet income requirements.
