Find a job on your own. Using the resources that are provided to you in this handy guide, you should be able to secure a summer job by following these tips.
Find a volunteer position. Many young people just aren't ready for a job. However, by volunteering their time they can gain important experience. We provide you with some resources and helpful hints when seeking a volunteer position.
Understand the law. State law places age restrictions on young people before they can begin working. We have provided you with some explanations of how these laws are applied, along with a copy of the Illinois Child Labor Law for your reference.

Your guide to finding a job

Finding a job can be challenging, but it can also be exciting and rewarding. Some people spend a great deal of time and effort finding a job that they enjoy. Others may walk right into an ideal situation. Don't be discouraged if you have to pursue many leads. Friends, neighbors, teachers and school counselors may know of available jobs in your field of interest. Read the classified ads, consult State Employment Service offices and consider community employment agencies. You may also contact employers directly.
