Your Family Guide to After School Programs We know that kids who are involved in after school programs are healthier, safer and do better in school. Let's give our kids the best that we can offer. Let's make sure that they are actively engaged in constructive activities after the school bell rings. Experts tell us what every parent knows. When kids are actively involved in healthy, constructive programs, they do great. Just GETTING INVOLVED is enough to keep them away from the dangers of gangs, guns and drugs. And, the more that they participate the more they are likely to succeed.Chicago is such a big City, and it offers so much, that we couldn't fit all of the resources for after school programs into one guide. So, we divided the City into six regions. The six regions are the same ones used by the Chicago Public Schools to organize school-time activities. You can pick the region where you live or go to school and learn more about what to do. REGION ONE Region one starts at the northern boundaries of the City and continues south to Belmont Avenue. It includes the following community areas:
REGION TWO Region Two starts at Belmont Avenue and continues south to Kinzie Ave. It includes the following community areas:
REGION THREE Region Three starts at Kinzie Ave and continues south to Cermak. It includes the following community areas:
REGION FOUR Region Four starts at Cermak and continues south to 55th Street. It includes the following community areas:
REGION FIVE Region Five starts at 55th Street and continues south to 83rd Street. It includes the following community areas:
REGION SIX Region Six starts at 83rd Street and continues south to the southern boundaries of the City. It includes the following community areas:
Your Regional Guide to After School Programs is a resource of contact information. Program descriptions, phone numbers and web sites are organized in categories that are easy to understand. For example, if you want to GET FIT, you can learn more about programs offered through the Park District. If you want to KEEP LEARNING, you can discover what's happening at your local library. Also, each guide offers a directory of the schools, libraries, parks and youth workforce agencies that are located in your neighborhood. Find out what interests you and GET INVOLVED today! |
